The Commons Convening aims to advance a system-wide dialogue that amplifies the importance of Commons in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and climate action goals. This will involve sharing best practices, fostering innovation, and promoting policy coherence that ensures Commons management contributes effectively to the broader sustainable development agenda.
Furthermore, the convening will aim at bringing together views and approaches to establish mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating the impact of Commons management on SDG targets. It will facilitate the exchange of data and insights among stakeholders, promoting an evidence-based approach that supports adaptive management strategies. This will ensure that interventions remain responsive to emerging challenges and opportunities.
By integrating research findings, traditional knowledge, and community-led initiatives, the convening will promote a holistic understanding of the role of Commons in sustainable development, driving impactful and scalable solutions.
In its inaugural edition, the Commons Convening is an invite-only dialogue. Delegates from a wide array of sectors – including civil society, academia, philanthropy, the corporate world, and government – will come together for this deeply immersive three-day event.
The convening will aim for the following objectives:
- Improving visibility of Commons, civic engagement, and collective action.
- Fostering cross-sector discussions among diverse actors, helping them link Commons to areas such as governance, nutrition, food systems, and incomes.
- Exploring new areas, such as freshwater ecosystems, and urban Commons.
- Highlighting experiences of Commons and commoning at scale.
- Positioning Commons as plausible solutions within mainstream programs.
- Serving as a platform for cross-learning and advancing discussions and actions beyond the event.
